Women's Issues and Gender Fluid Casting in Ken Ludwig's The Three Musketeers

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule and see who's attending!

This presentation and panel discussion will explore anti-women themes in Ken Ludwig's script and the ways in which the creative team subverted or supported those themes through directorial, design, and performative choices. Ludwig is lauded for creating a “strong female character,” but the dialog and stage directions reduce the character to a gross stereotype subject to appalling sexist tropes. We will explore the pre-production design process, including the resource challenges of costuming cross gender body-types in the binary of period silhouettes.
